Zvi Shner (1912-1984)

Zvi (Henio) Shner was born in Lodz Poland. During WWII he was in exile in the Caucasus, USSR. After the war he joined the remaining Polish Jewry and immigrated to the Land of Israel (Palestine) and was among the founders of the Ghetto Fighters Kibbutz.

Shner was the founding director of the the Ghetto Fighters House, the Holocaust and Heroism museum, until his last days. Zvi edited many books and was the editor of most of the GFH periodicals. 



Sara Dusznizky (Shner) (1913-1998)

Sara was born in a small town, Sejny, on the border of Poland and Lithuania. During WWII she was first imprisoned in a labor camp and then escaped and joined a partisan unite in Belorussia. After the was she was an underground activist in Soviet Lithuania and smuggled Jews to Poland. She escaped to Lodz and were among the founders of another illegal organization that searched for Jewish children in foster families.

In 1948 she immigrated to Israel and were among the founders of the GFK. She was an educator, historian and prolific writer. 

 

Zvi and Sara were members of their kibbutz until their last day and have three sons.

My name is Moshe Shner, a senior lecturer of Jewish philosophy and online pedagogy at Oranim Academic College of Education in Israel.



I Got an M.A. in Jewish philosophy from Haifa University and a Ph.D. in Jewish philosophy from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in NYC. My dissertation deals with the impact of the Holocaust memory on Jewish identity.


My academic teaching includes topics in Jewish philosophy, Jewish education, Holocaust Education and the challenge of modern Jewish identity in a post-Holocaust world, interfaith dialogues and multicultural education.

A major element of my study is the legacy of the Polish-Jewish educator Janusz Korczak.

Besides Judaic studies, I deal with online pedagogy and the challenge of the Internet World to traditional teaching-learning paradigms.
