Moshe Shner
Don't Leave the World as it is My blog (in Hebrew)
Who am I?
My name is Moshe Shner and I am a lecturer of Philosophy, History and Education at Oranim Academic College of Education in Israel.
I got my M.A. in Jewish philosophy from Haifa University and my Ph.D. in Jewish philosophy from the Jewish Theological Seminary in NYC.
Much of my research and teaching is dedicated to the history of the Holocaust of the Jewish people, its impact on the identity of men in a post-Holocaust era, the development of commemoration culture, and the place of the Holocaust in education.
The heritage of the Polish-Jewish educator, philosopher, children writer, Janusz Korczak has a central place in my academic work.
I am a second generation to Holocaust survivors and founders of the Ghetto Fighters House and The Ghetto Fighters Kibbutz (April 1949).
For years, we were at war along the Israel - Gaza Strip borders. On a larger scale, it is a war between a Western democratic civilization and Radical Islam. At the same time, another dangerous conflict is lurking along the Lebanese border where the Hezbollah is building its military capacity.
Meanwhile, Israel is ruling, since 1967, the Palestinians in the 'West Bank" - a major threat to its ethical character and its identity as the democratic home-state of the Jewish people.
Invitation
This is an invitation for a common discussion of questions of ethics, education, historical memory and identity in a post 20th century era.
